Abstract: Objective To study the epidemiological characteristics of injury deaths in residents in Yuyao, Zhejiang province, and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of injury. Methods The injury death data in residents in Yuyao from 2011 to 2015 were collected and classified according to the international classification of diseases. The average injury mortality rate, standardized average injury mortality rate, potential years of life lost (PYLL) and the rate of PYLL were calculated.Results From 2011 to 2015, the average injury mortality rate was 73.20/100 000, and the standardized average injury mortality rate was 52.86/100 000. The first five injury death causes were accidental fall (28.50/100 000), traffic accident (14.39/100 000), other injuries (12.98/100 000), drowning (5.48/100 000) and suicide (5.20/100 000). Drowning (6.61/100 000) was the major death cause in children aged 0-14 years, and traffic accident (12.25/100 000) was the major death cause in people aged 15-64 years, while accident fall (178.40/100 000) was the major death cause in the elderly aged 65 years. The PYLL was 25 563.50 years caused by injury in total, the average PYLL was 21.26 years by injury, the rate of PYLL was 6.77.Conclusion Injury is one of leading causes of deaths in Yuyao, causing great loss of life expectancy. Comprehensive control measures against injuries should be carried out for different groups of people.
