Abstract: Objective This research was intended to learn about the epidemiological features of 34 CaseS of acute flaccid paralysis(AFP) reported in Xuzhou City of 2003 and the operation of monitoring system. Methods Case investigation forms and follow-up questionnaires of AFP were gathered，and isolation of virus and antibody titer determination were conducted respectively after feces specimens in these Cases as well as pre-and post-immnnization serological samples of first-vaccination subjects had been collected Results 34 cases of AFP were distributed ln 8 connties (dislricts) with 22 cases of male and 12 CaSes of female No seasonality was found in the time of onsets；the oldest sufferer was 14 years dd and the youngest was 3-month old；immunization number≥3 acconnted for 97.1％. Among children below 15 years old，the morbidity rate of non-poliomyelitis AFP was 1.9/lakh and the sampling rate of double qualified feces specimens was 97.1％ From a couple of 2 cases，poliomyelitis vaccine strain and non—poliomyeitis gastrointestinal viros were isolated respectivdy；the succesaful rate of basic immuniza-tion with type Ⅰ,Ⅱand Ⅲ poliomyelitis vaccine was 100.0％，100.0％and 97.9％ respectively Con-clusion The operation of AFP csse monitoring system in Xuzhou City is in good condition
