Abstract: Objective This research was conducted to assess the basic immunization effectiveness of measles vaccine (MV) and the level of antibodies in healthy population in Jiangmen city．Methods (1).Conventional MV vaccination was employed for healthy children who should have been subject to basic immunization．Peripheral blood was drawn within one month before and after immunization tO determine measles antibodies；(2)．For part of healthy population in this city，peripheral blood was col-lected for testing of measles antibodies．Results(1)．From 2001 to 2003，the positive rate of antibodies in healthy children was 19.05％，17.57％and 24.05％，and the geometric mean reverse titer (GMRT) of measles antitbodies was 3.38．2.93 and 3.06 respectively before basic immunization；One month after basic immunization was adminismred，the rate was 98.26％，97.30％ and 96.20％，and GMRT was 465.59，803.53 and 578.10，respectively；(2)For healthy populations，the positive rate of measles anti-bodies was 93.47％and GMRT was 687.07，showing no significant difference among each age group as for positive antibody rate．Conclusion The overall antibody level of measles for first immunization in Jiangmen is relatively high and basic immunization is an important approach to prevent and control the epidemic of measles．
