Abstract: Objectives The present study was to calculate the economic burden，both direct and indirect.of malignant tumor patients in hospital so that information could be offered for establish-ing the family prevention sTRategy for malignant tumors Methods On-site survey was employed to fmd Out all expenses and the chaperon and care status when malignant tumor patients were in hospital，which would be compared with local ptice for in—patient caie Results The total family expense for 206 malignant tumor patients hOspitalized once was￥5,272,996 yaan，including the direct economic burden ￥4,874,093 yuan，which accounted for 92.43％of all economic burden，and the indirect economic burden￥398,903 yuan，which accounted for 7,57％of all economic burden．The average direct burden for each family was￥23，660，64 yuan，whereas the average in-direct burden was￥1，936，42 yuan，The treatment expense of malignant tumor patients accounted for the most of all indirect burdens In Logistic regression analysis Where the ratio of treatment ex-pense to family income of the correspondlng period is 4，five influential factors including number of family members，time counted from the final diagnosis，course，days in hospital this time and medical security mode Indirect economic burden was mainly attributed t0 the chaperon and care in hospital，the cost of which among patients in advanced stage was higher than that among pa-tients in clementary and middle stages Conclusion As for malignant tumor patients in advanced stage，in view of their high COSTS and long time in hospital．And heavy burdens for the chaperon and care，they might as well return to their communities and families in favor of their own families
