Abstract: Objective The present study was conducted to gain insight into the prevalence of hypertension among the middle-aged and aged residents in the city of Anyang．Methods Randomized sampling technique was used to investigate blood presure of population over 35 years of age in the communities in the city of Anyang in 2004．Results It was found that the incidence rate of hypertension among the residents over 35 years of age in the city of Anyang was 32.25％ with no significant difference between male and female．The incidence rate increased with age，there being differences between populations with different occupations and work intensities．Conclusion About one third of the middle-aged and aged population in the communities in the city of Anyang suffer from hypertension，with the incidence rate varying with different occupations and work intensities．
