Abstract: Objective This program was implemented to help the patients with tuberculosis in the district to have a sound understanding of the disease through the promotion of health education of the disease. Methods The standardized methods for the promotion of health education were used for health education and intervention for some of the tuberculosis patients in the district who were newly diagnosed and given primary treatment from Jul. 2002 to Dec.2004. Results It was found that the rate of knowledge about the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis, the rate of regular medication use, the rate of follow-ups and the cure rate among some of the tuberculosis patients increased, there being statistically significant difference(P0.05)compared with the control group. Conclusion The health providers for the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis should use the method for the promotion of health education in their practice and make the promotion become routine and institutional to ensure sustainable development of the prevention and treatment of the disease.
