Abstract: Objective The present study was designed to make an analysis on the epidemiological characteristics of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in Yuhuan County over the past 11 years for providing a scientific basis for the formulation of strategies for effective prevention and control of the diseases. Methods Statistical analysis of the data on the 8 kinds of notifiable STD over the past 11 years in Yuhuan County was made. Results Over the 11 years, of the 8 kinds of STD under surveillance 7 kinds of the diseases were reported except lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) with 8479 accumulated cases report ed. The average annual incidence was 197.47/lakh with an average annual growth rate of 12.68%. Conclusion The prevalence of STD represents an increasing trend in Yuhuan Country with syphilis and NUG more prominent. The popularization of knowledge about the prevention and control of STD, and the promotion of safe sexual behaviors are effective measures for the control of STD.
