Abstract: Objective This study was designed to analyze the situation and behavioral characteristics of people who received HIV Voluntary Counseling Testing(VCT), and provide a scientific basis for further development of VCT program and health education in the future. Methods Anonymous consultations were carried out for those who sought VCT by phone or coming to Fuzhou Municipal CDC from 2004 to 2006, and the decision of whether to take an HIV antibody test or not was left for themselves to make. Results A total number of 811 consultations were achieved with a predominance of males and young people(79.04% of them were within the age of 20-40), and a characteristic of high education and stable occupation was presented among those people. 65.10%of the people came for consultation because of unsafe sexual behavior. 40.80% of the knowledge about AIDS was from the internet. 86.56% of them took the HIV antibody test and 16 cases were tested positive with a positive rate of 2.28%. Conclusion VCT is a sound measure of preventing and controlling AIDS, it should be propagated with greater intensity among the migrant workers and service personnel in entertainment place. VCT should be made known by more people and attract more people to participate in.
