Abstract:
Objective The study was conducted to identify the food borne bacterial contamination in meat and seafood fromfarmers market in Yuyao City. Methods The samples were tested for ISalmonella, Shigella/I, EHEC O157, IVibrioparahaemolyticus, Listeria monocytogenes/I isolates and underwent biochemical and serological identification using Chromagarand an imported biochemical identification system according to the international procedures. Results From 365 tested samplesof 5 species of food such as raw pork, beef/mutton, fowl, cooked meat in bulk and seafood, 213 positive cases wereidentified, the detection rate being 58.36 percent. Detected strains amounted to 273, the overall identification rate being74.79 percent. Conclusion Commercial meat, seafood, as found to be severely polluted, would easily cause foodborne diseases.
