Abstract: Objective To analyze the causes of injury cases reported by sentinel hospitals in Tibet autonomous region from 2006 to 2009 and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of injury. Methods Unified record cards were used to register the injury cases seeking medical care for the first time in 3 sentinel hospitals. Results Most injury cases were young and middle-aged males, who were mainly students, people engaged commercial service and farmers. Among people aged 0-15 and ＞ 65 years, the top injury cause was fall down, followed by motor vehicle accident. The injuries caused by blunt instrument and sharp instrument also accounted for some proportions. For people aged 15-65 years, the top injury cause was motor vehicle accident, and the injuries caused by blunt instrument, sharp instrument and fall down accounted for about 1/4 respectively. The injuries caused by motor/non-motor vehicle accidents mainly occurred on road/street, and fall down, blunt and sharp instrument injuries mainly occurred at home and in public places. Conclusion Injuries caused by traffic accidents, fall down, blunt instrument and sharp instrument were the priorities of injury intervention and key places for injury intervention include road/street, home/public residence, schools, commercial places and construction sites.
