Abstract: Objective To analyze epidemiological characteristics of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) in Ninghai and provide evidence for HFMD prevention and control. Methods The incidence data of HFMD in Ninghai from 2009-2011 were collected from national disease reporting information system to conduct descriptive epidemiological analysis. Results A total of 7217 HFMD cases, including 1 death, were reported during this period. The annual case number was 2648 in 2009,2509 in 2010 and 2060 cases in 2011 with incidence of 454.44/lakh, 425.24/lakh and 313.89/lakh respectively. No severe and death cases were reported in 2009 and 2011,while 3 severe cases and 1 death were reported in 2010. The pathogen was EV71 in 2010,but Cox A16 in 2011. Conclusion The incidence of HFMD declined from 2009 to 2011 in Ninghai. Cox A16 became predominant in stead of EV71 in 2011, and the disease continued to occur in some areas.
