Abstract:
Objective To understand the infection status among the diarrhea patients in Shigella in Yuyao, Zhejiang province. Methods Stool specimens and anal swabs were collected from infectious diarrhea patients to conduct bacterium enrichment, isolation, biochemical identification, serotyping, drug susceptibility test and virulence gene PCR detection. Results Of 1360 specimens tested in 2007-2011, thirty-six were Shigella positive(2.65%). Among of them, four were S. flexneri 2a(11.11%), three were S. flexneri 2b(8.33%), eleven were S. flexneri 1d(30.56%), twelve were S. flexneri Xv(33.33%) and six were Shigella sonnei(16.67%). All the Shigella strains were multi-drug resistant. Conclusion From 2007 to 2011,S.flexneri was the major pathogen causing Shigellisis in Yuyao, and S. flexneri Xv is the predominant serotype. Antibiotic susceptibility results indicated that these strains were sensitive to aminoglycosides, quinolones and some cephalosporin. The virulence genes varied.
