Abstract:
Objective To understand the death pattern among the residents in Zhifu district in Yantai, Shandong province, and provide scientific evidence for effective disease prevention and control. Methods Analysis was conducted on the death data, which were classified according to ICD-10, among the residents in Zhifu from 2007 to 2012. Results The annual average mortality was 467.26/lakh among the residents in Zhifu during this period. The mortality in males was higher than that in females, the difference was statistically significant. The first 5 leading death causes were cancer, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease; injury and respiratory system disease. The deaths caused by these diseases accounted for 89.04% of the total deaths. The gender and age specific mortality curve were shaped as U. The mortality increased with age since 15 years old, especially after 50 years old. The average life expectancy was 80.97 years, which was in increase. Conclusion Chronic non-communicable diseases-cancer, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease and injury are the leading death causes among the residents in Zhifu. As the ageing of population, the health care for the elderly should be strengthened.
