Abstract: Objective To evaluate the accuracy of syphilis reporting in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province. Methods The data of syphilis cases reported through network during the first quarters of years 2011-2013 were collected and compared with the diagnostic data and detection results of these cases in hospitals to determine whether the reported syphilis cases met the diagnostic criteria and reporting standards. Results A total of 851 syphilis cases were surveyed in 2011, the diagnose accordance rate was 48.88%, but the diagnose accordance rate of congenital syphilis was only 10.00%. A total of 933 syphilis cases were surveyed in 2012, the diagnose accordance rate was 57.56%, but the diagnose accordance rate of congenital syphilis was only 5.77%. A total of 546 syphilis cases were surveyed in 2013, the diagnose accordance rate was 92.86%, but the diagnose accordance rate of congenital syphilis was only 20.00%. Conclusion The accuracy of syphilis reporting increased with year in Wenzhou, but the accuracy of congenital syphilis was still low. It is necessary to further strengthen the staff training and reporting supervision to improve the accuracy of syphilis reporting for the purpose of reflecting actual prevalence of syphilis in Wenzhou.
