Abstract: Objective To understand the patterns and level of death among the children/adolescents aged 0-19 years in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, provide a scientific evidence for the intervention and control measures. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the death data of children and adolescents in Wenzhou from 2012 to 2013 by using the indicators of mortality, potential years of life lost(PYLL), potential years of life lost rate(PYLLR)and average years of life lost(AYLL). Results From 2012 to 2013,the crude mortality in 0-19-year-old children/adolescents was 39.94/lakh, the age standardized mortality was 51.30/lakh, the crude mortality was 42.74/lakh in males and 36.48/lakh in females(P0.05).The top three diseases with high PYLL were injure/poisoning, congenital anomaly and perinatal diseases, the PYLL was 86 985.00 person years, the rate of PYLL and AYLL were 25.47 and 63.77 years per person respectively. The PYLL due to injure/poisoning was 25 729.50 person years and the PYLL of the children aged 0-1 caused by perinatal diseases was 14 490.00 person years. Conclusion Injure/poisoning has become the first cause of death among the 0-19-year-old children/adolescents in Wenzhou and perinatal diseases has become a major threat to the children aged 0-1 years, therefore, it is necessary to take appropriate preventive measures.
