Abstract: Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of injury death in residents in Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, and provide scientific evidence for the local prevention and control of injury. Methods The injury death data in residentsin Zhoushan from 2009 to 2015 were collected and the data were classified according to the international classification of diseases (ICD-10). The descriptive statistical analysis was conducted. Results From 2009 to 2015, the average injury mortality and standardized average injury mortality rate was 51.39/100 000 and 44.23/100 000, respectively, in Zhoushan, ranking 5th in total death causes, the injury mortality was higher in males than in females (P0.05). The first five injury death causes were accidental fall(18.29/100 000), traffic accident (12.46/100 000), drowning(4.34/100 000), shipping accident except motor vehicle(4.26/100 000) and other injuries(3.79/100 000). Drowning(3.51/100 000) was the major death cause in age group 0-14 years, traffic accident (10.74/100 000) was the major death cause in age group 15-64 years, accidental fall (134.95/100 000) was the major death cause in age group65 years. The injury mortality rate caused by fishing and shipping accident was 8.46/100 000 in males. The average years of life lost was 12.19 years by injury, the potential years of life lost was 6.75. Conclusion Injury is one of major public health problems in Zhoushan, causing great loss of lifeexpectancy, it is necessary to conduct population specific injury prevention and control in Zhoushan.
