Abstract: Objective To determine the prevalence of viral hepatitis B in Xiuzhou district, Jiaxing city, Zhejiang province from 2004 to 2008. Methods Annual case reports of viral hepatitis B in the district from 2004 to 2008 were analyzed. Results The cumulative number of reported cases was 1 084 in the district from 2004 to 2008, the average annual incidence of 47.71/lakh, lower than the reported incidence in 2004 (50/lakh) and that reported by the national notifiable infectious disease reporting system for hepatitis B in 2006 (78.44/lakh). Conclusion Despite decreasing reported incidence rates of hepatitis B from 2004 to 2008, nominally high incidence was noticed in the case reports.
