Abstract:
ObjectiveTo analyze the performance of voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) for HIV in Xinjiang in 2007. MethodsThe indicators in Form of Case Registry for Testing and Counseling for people seeking advice for the first time in VCT clinic during January-December in 2007 were analyzed. ResultsThe age of 876 people seeking advice ranged from 15 to 45 years old, 83.07% of them were with the education level less than high school, and 36.30% of them had history of high-risk behaviors. HIV antibody detection rate was 1.03%, and the reasons for counseling included non-marital heterosexual sex behavior and previous non-normal blood donation. ConclusionIt is necessary to adjust VCT strategy to meet the needs of different populations and strengthen the education to improve the counseling rate for high-risk groups.
