Epidemiological Study on the Relationship Between Smoking and Diseases

  • The prevalence rates of diseases were studied in 2568 retired army senior cadres who inhabited in 26 cadre sanatoriums with similar dietary,living and environmental condition and were divided into smoking group (1750) and non smoking group (818). The results showed that the prevalence rates of chronic bronchitis,pulmonary emphysema,pulmonary heart disease,high blood plasma lipid,hypertension,coronary heart diseases,cholelitosis,cancer,ulcer were higher in smoking group than in non smoking group,P<0.005,RR≥2.The prevalence rates of various systems diseases also increased in the group who smoked more or for a longer time. It was suggested that smoking should be prohibited in order to reduce the morbiditied of these diseases.
