Investigation on carrying status of pathogenic bacteria of epidemic meningitis among builders from outside Guangzhou

Objective This investigation was designed to understand the carrying status of pathogenic bacteria of epidemic meningitis among builders from outside Guangzhou SO as to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of epidemic meningitis in the city．Methods Swabs of relevant population were collected and cultured on chocolate agar plates，of which the suspected colonies were selected for pure culture．And microscopic examination of stained smear of the culture，biochemical reaction and serological identification were performed．Results The Neisseria meningitis carrying rate of 545 outside buUders WaS 10.83％．Among them the carrying rate around the infectious foci was up to 13.54％．The serological identification demonstrated a majority of a colony (59.57％)，while B colony，C colony，type 1916 and indeterminate types accounted for 3.17％，0.86％，0.29％，1.15％，respectively．The carrying rate in non-infectious foci was 6.06％，with a predominance of B colony (accounting for 91.67％)．The carrying rate among 216 local residents was 2.78％，indicating B colony as a majority (accounting for 66．67％)．Conclusion The Neisseria meningitis carrying rate of buflders from outside Guangzhou is high and outside migrant population should be listed within the scope of future monitoring．
