An analysis on the demand on HIV voluntary counseling and testing in high risk population

Objective The study was conducted to get insight into the demands on the services and models of HIV voluntary counsding ＆ testing in the high risk population of AIDS in order to provide a basis for future services for voluntary counseling & testing．Methods Questionnaire interview and focus group discussion were done in the population with high risk behaviors in Sichuang,Hubei,Guangdong,etc．Results Three groups of population with high risk behaviors，total 371 objects，were surveyed，and subjects who had heard of VCT accounting for 56.28％，subjects who got VCT service information mainly from medias and propaganda materials for 46,12％，subjects who hoped tO enjoy the service of HIV counseling & testing in CDC a for 40％，subjects who thought it was necessary tO conduct HIV counseling & testing for 80.22％,subjects who thought they needed consultation and got more necessary information before testing for 83.87％，subjects who needed to be informed of the results after testing for 95.86％，female sex workers for 70.83％，drug abusers for 83.87％，homosexual males who would inform their sexual partners of the positive results when their final diagnosis revealed that they were HIV-infected patients for 72.36％．Conclusion The high risk population has a large demand on HIV voluntary counseling & testing with different demands among different population groups．It is important to improve the availability of VCT and service quality in order tO meet the different demands of different population groups．
