Analysis of surveillance result of influenza in Shandong from 2005 to 2006

  • Objective The study was conducted to find out the epidemic trend by analyzing the surveiUance result of influenza for further control of the influenza epidemic in Shandong Province from 2005 to 2006.Methods Influenza-like cases in surveillance spots, virus isolation and serological surveillance were summarized and taken into the analysis. Results The percentage of influenza-like patients' visits showed an increasing trend from October to December but decreasing from January to March without obvious epidemic peak,as reported by four surveillance hospitals in Shandong Province from 2005 to 2006.From the end of February to the end of March,15 outbreak of influenza-like cases were observed.67 influenza virus strains were isolated in this year, influenza virus(H_1N_1)being pre- dominant. The antibody-positive rate of normal serum was 100% against A/PANAMA/2007/99(H_3N_2) and B/HONGKONG/330/01-LIKE strains and at least 65% against A/NEW CALEDONIA/20/99(H_1N_1) strain. Conclusion The number of influenza-like cases coincided with the etiological surveillance re- sult, and can be used to reflect the activity strength of influenza. The sensitivity of the surveillance network has yet to be further improved.
