Investigation on the status quo of reporting of epidemics and its management in Gnilin

  • Objective The present investigation was conducted to analyze the reporting quality of epidemic situations and allocation of management staff concerned in city the of Guilin from 2005 to 2006 in order to find out problems and defects for the development of management strategies that contribute to direct network reporting in the city of Guilin. Methods A descriptive study method and indicator evaluation were employed. Results The coverage rate of direct network report in the city of Guilin was 70.75%, with 59.81% of the report cards reported by the basic medical institutions at the county level or lower. The reporting time from clinical diagnosis in hospitals to review by CDC was shortened markedly, averagely from 2.38 days in the past to 0.73 day at present. In 2006, the comprehensive evaluation index rate of infectious disease reporting monthly through the network system was 3.72% with an average rate of missing report of 5.93%. Full-time staff in charge of the management of epidemic reporting in the institutions surveyed accounted for 30.41%. Conclusion The direct network reporting system contributes to the improvement of the quality of epidemic situation reporting in Guilin city, but there are still some problems such as inadequate understanding of the importance of infectious disease reporting among the personnel, and the lack of them. The key measures to further improve the quality of epidemic reporting includes reinforcing the supervision of the direct network reporting, improving the reporting process and management, strengthening training of the personnel concerned and construction of the equipment needed, expanding the coverage of epidemic situation network reporting system.
