Analysis of the epidemiological characteristics of gonorrhea in Jinhua city from 2000 to 2007

Objective　The study was conducted to explore the epidemiological characteristics of gonorrhea in Jinhua, Zhejiangprovince from 2000 through 2007, providing evidence for the development of control strategies against gonorrhea in future.Methods　A retrospective analysis was made on the data of gonorrhea epidemic in Jinhua between 2000 and 2007. Results　During those eight years, the average annual incidence rate of gonorrhea was 60.47/lakh, and the sex ratio was 3.96∶1 (man towoman). A higher incidence was showed in men than in women. Mostly, the age at onset of gonorrhea was between. Conclusion　20 and 39 years, while peasants, merchants, workmen and migrant workers remained the groups primarily affected by gonorrhea.In order to contain the epidemic of gonorrhea, it is vital to intensify health promotion for high risk populations, to eliminate commercial sex and to promote health education on moral and ethical sexual considerations.
