Molecular features of the prevailing Vibrio cholerae EI Tor strains isolated in China, 2005

  • ObjectiveTo analyze the molecular features of the prevailing IVibrio cholerae/I EI Tor strains isolated in China, 2005. MethodsThe cluster analysis was conducted by pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). The amplification of specific fragment and sequencing were conducted by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing method. ResultsThe PFGE patterns of the prevailing Vibrio cholerae strains in 2005 were almost the same and were different from strains isolated before. All prevailing strains have the same gene mutation in the VSPⅡ region induced by the insertion of the same insert sequence. ConclusionThe prevailing IVibrio cholerae/I strains isolated in 2005 had the same mutation in VSPⅡ region which was reported for the first time. As the proneness to spread, the surveillance for this IVibiro cholerae/I strain should be reinforced.
