Epidemiological aalysis of hand, foot and mouth disease in Jinhua,2009

  • Objective To identify the epidemiological characteristics of hand-foot-mouth disease(HFMD)in Jinhua in 2009. Methods Descriptive epidemiological approaches were employed to analyze the HFMD cases reported in 2009. Results A total of 6158 cases were reported in Jinhua,2009, with an incidence rate of 121.09/lakh, and most were mild. Etiologic surveillance showed that CoxA16 was the predominant epidemic strain. The largest number of patients and highest incidence rate were noticed in Wucheng district. Cases in urban areas were more than those in rural ones. Conclusion The incidence of HFMD, present throughout a year, peaked in late spring and early winter. Scattered and kindergarten children of five or younger were primarily affected; and the number of male patients and their incidence rate were obviously higher than those of females.
