AIDS test and related behavior analysis of 798 female addicts under coercive drug rehabilitation in Jinhua city,2004 - 2009

  • Objective This study discuses the HIV prevalence and its transmission routes among female drug users to provide the basis for control measures by performing HIV antibody test and related behavior analysis in 798 female abusers compulsively isolated for drug rehabilitation in Jinhua, Zhejiang province from 2004 to 2009. Methods The 798 female drug users were tested for HIV antibody levels and given questionnaire surveys for statistical analysis of related behaviors. Results Of the 798 subjects,26 were HIV-positive (3.26%),79.62% had commercial sex activities,44.36% abused drugs intravenously, and 13.41% had shared syringes. Conclusion To curb HIV prevalence, it is essential to enhance AIDS prevention education for female sex workers, strengthen community management and education for female addicts, improve life care for them and reduce high-risk sexual behaviors.
