Epidemiology of scarlet fever in Shijingshan, Beijing, 1983-2011

  • Objective understand the epidemiological characteristics of scarlet fever in Shijingshan from 1983 to 2011 and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of scarlet fever. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the surveillance data and case survey result of scarlet fever in Shijingshan during this period. Results A total of 2396 cases scarlet fever were reported with the average annual incidence of 21.62/lakh. The cases in children aged 2-10 years accounted for 95.74% of the total, and median age of the cases was 6 years. Up to 92.55% of all cases were distributed in children in child care settings and students in primary schools. Conclusion Children aged 2-10 years are susceptible population of scarlet fever,schools and child care settings are the places where scarlet fever is prone to occur. The prevention and control of scarlet fever should be strengthened in this population.
