Tend of breast cancer mortality in females in Ningbo, Zhejiang, 2002-2010

Objective To understand the breast cancer mortality and its trend in females in Ningbo, and provide a scientific evidence for breast cancer prevention and control. Methods The data of death caused by breast cancer in females in Ningbo from 2002 to 2010 were collected to calculate the crude mortality, standardized mortality and age specific mortality. Results The crude mortality of breast cancer in females in Ningbo during this period was 7.59/lakh. The standardized mortality was 4.51/lakh calculated by using China standard population in 1990. The standard mortality showed no decline trend during this period. Two mortality peaks were found in age groups ≥55 years and ≥85 years. The difference in mortality between urban area and rural area had no statistical significance. Conclusion The mortality of breast cancer in females was low in Ningbo compared with other regions. Breast cancer is one of the most serious malignancies among Chinese women. It is necessary to promote healthy lifestyle and conduct the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
