Investigation on an imported case of Loaiasis

  • To understand the process of diagnosis, treatment and epidemiological history of an imported Loaiasis case, provide reference for the identification and management of imported Loaiasis and other tropical diseases and suggest related response strategy. The patient had worked in endemic areas in Congo-Brazzaville for 28 months and had Chrysops bite history before the onset, with the clinical manifestations of subcutaneous migratory enclosed mass, accompanied by pruritus and swelling of the eyes, and results of two laboratory Bancroftosis antigen test were negative. Since most hospitals had no diagnosis and specific treatment capabilities for Loaiasis, it is suggested to establish a stockpile mechanism of medicines and diagnostic reagents in some hospitals for the response of imported Loaiasis, strengthen the capability training for the diagnosis and treatment of Loaiasis and other tropical diseases, and conduct health education about tropical disease prevention among people who are going to travel or work in the disease endemic countries.
