Surveillance for brucellosis in Liaoning province,2012-2015

  • Objective To understand the dynamics of brucellosis epidemic in Liaoning province from 2012 to 2015 and provide scientific evidence for the prevention and control of brucellosis. Methods The incidence and monitoring data of brucellosis in Liaoning from 2012 to 2015 were collected for descriptive epidemiological analysis. Results A total of 9 247 cases of brucellosis were reported in Liaoning province during this period, the average annual incidence ranged from 3.37/100 000-6.65/100 000. The cases in population without occupational exposure accounted for 12.46%. The average positive rate in population with occupational exposure was 6.29%. Totally 136 strains of Brucella were isolated in etiological surveillance, including 32 strains of Brucella melitensis Ⅰ,103 strains of Brucella melitensis Ⅲ,1 strain of Brucella melitensis variant. Conclusion The incidence of brucellosis is high in Liaoning province. The incidence trend of human brucellosis caused by infected sheep and then transmitted by means of non-traditional route, such as food, has become obvious. The key of human brucellosis prevention and control is to strengthen the multi-sectoral cooperation and take comprehensive control measures.
