Epidemiology of HIV infection/AIDS in Quzhou, Zhejiang,2007-2016

  • Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of HIV infection/AIDS in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, from 2007 to 2016, and provide scientific evidence for the effective intervention and control. Methods Descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the reported data of HIV infection/AIDS cases in Quzhou during this period.Results A total of 620 HIV infection/AIDS cases were reported during 2007 to 2016, the male to female ratio of the cases was 3.3:1. Sexual contact was the major transmission route (93.4%). The majority of HIV infection/AIDS cases (71.1%) were aged 20-49 years. The proportion of the cases in the elderly increased with year, and the average age of the cases increased obviously. The proportion of the cases in local residents increased with year, reaching the highest level of 74.3% in 2016. About 77.8% of the cases were with education level lower than middle school. The cases were mainly found through hospital detection instead of the detection in custody personnel previously. Fifty five cases were detected in STD clinics (8.9%). The proportion of the transmission through male homosexual contacts increased significantly from 11.1% in 2009 to 38.2% in 2011 and kept at a high level in recent years.Conclusion AIDS epidemic in Quzhou became serious during 2007-2016. Sexual contact has become the major transmission route of HIV infection, and the HIV infection rate increased rapidly among men who have sex with men. It is necessary further strengthen the health education about HIV/AIDS prevention and control and expand detection coverage in populations at high risk and conduct early detection and treatment of HIV infection/AIDS to control AIDS epidemic.
