Abstract:
In March 2026, a total of 69 infectious diseases were reported globally, affecting 129 countries and territories. Except for influenza, the top five infectious diseases affecting greatest number of countries and territories were Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (76), mpox (71), dengue fever (32), measles (26) and cholera (17). The top five infectious diseases with highest case fatality rates were human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) (47.9%), yellow fever (44.2%), Lassa fever (25.2%), invasive meningococcal disease (9.5%) and Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever (7.3%). The prevalent infectious diseases in Africa were cholera, Lassa fever, poliomyelitis, mpox, malaria and measles, the prevalent infectious diseases in Asia were cholera, poliomyelitis, dengue fever, mpox and Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever, the prevalent infectious diseases in America were yellow fever, cholera, COVID-19, dengue fever, chikungunya virus disease, mpox and measles, the prevalent infectious disease in Europe were COVID-19, mpox, invasive meningococcal disease and measles.
