Abstract
Objective The study was conducted to explore the epidemiological characteristics of HIV/AIDS in Taizhou from 1996 to 2007 to identify the epidemiological factors. Methods The statistical analysis was performed based on the case investigation of 254 confirmed HIV/AIDS cases. Results A total of 254 cases were reported in 1996-2007,with 216 HIV-infected patients and 38 AIDS cases. The male-female ratio was 1.28∶1.Patients of 20 to 50 years of age accounted for 85.54%,and heterosexual transmission 57.02%,of overall cases. Conclusion Given the rapidly increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases reported in Taizhou and sexual activities as the dominant route of transmission, there was a potential for high-risk intrafamilial spread. Therefore, comprehensive interventions are urgently needed along with an established surveillance system for HIV epidemic and strengthened publicity and health education.
