Study on strategies of “four-pests free village”countryside sustainable vector management under the “One Health” in Zhejiang province, China

  • Objective To systematically summarize the theoretical experiences of sustainable control of rural vector-borne diseases in Zhejiang Province.
Methods  Starting from the "Mosquito-Free Village" research, Zhejiang Province studied and analyzed the strategies for sustainable control of rural vector organisms through investigation of four pests, density monitoring, and evaluation.
Results The innovative concepts and strategies for sustainable control of rural vector organisms in Zhejiang Province represent an exploration of China's path to the sustainable control of vectors in rural and grassroots areas, emphasizing the interaction among the "environment-host medium-human health". This is based on risk analysis and assessment of infectious diseases such as dengue fever. It promotes voluntary participation and self-management, integrates health, economy and ecology, and enhances coordination, community mobilization, and vector monitoring. A comprehensive and orderly selection of control technologies and measures focusing on environmental transformation, treatment, biological and physical prevention is implemented, with continuous monitoring and evaluation guiding integrated control and management of vector organisms, keeping vector populations at non-harmful levels for disease prevention and control ,to support rural revitalization.
Conclusion The innovative concepts and strategies for sustainable control of rural vector organisms in Zhejiang Province reflect an exploration and successful practice of implementing the "Global vector control response 2017–2030", achieving a perfect combination of health, social, economic benefits, and comprehensive ecological benefits.
