Abstract:
Objective To understand the Chlamydia trachomatis infection status and the factors associated with the acceptance of regular testing of C. trachomatis in men who have sex with men (MSM) in Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, and provide evidence for the development of regular C. trachomatis testing strategy in this population.
Methods From July 1 to October 31, 2023, MSM were recruited by Shaoxing Sunshine Coast Rainbow Public Welfare Development Center. Based on the informed consents from the participants, their demographic and sexological information were collected. Pharyngeal and rectal swabs, urine samples were collected for the derection of nucleic acid of C. trachomatis. Logistic regression model was used to identify the factors associated with the acceptance of regular C. trachomatis testing in MSM.
Results A total of 413 MSM were recruited. The infection rate of C. trachomatis was 14.29% (59/413) and the infection rate indicated by rectal swab testing was 10.41% (43/413). Multivariate logistic analysis showed that age <25 years odds ratio (OR)=2.02, 95% confidence interval(CI):1.10–3.73, spinsterhood (OR=1.79, 95%CI:1.02–3.12), persistent condom use at each sex in recent 6 months (OR=2.25, 95%CI:1.37–3.70), health education abou C. trachomatis infection in recent 6 momths (OR=2.14, 95%CI:1.16–3.94) were positive factors for the acceptance of regular C. trachomatis testing every six months in MSM.
Conclusions The infection rate of C. trachomatis was high in MSM in Shaoxing. The regular testing of C. trachomatis was highly accepted by local MSM. It is necessary to strengthen the targeted health education about C. trachomatis infection and improve C. trachomatis testing service in MSM to reduce the spread of C. trachomatis.
