Abstract:
Objective To unbderstand the epidemiological characteristics of the first confirmed infection case of mpox virus Ⅰb in Beijing, trace the source of infection, and provide evidence for the prevention and control of mpox in the future.
Methods A face to face epidemiological investigations was conducted for the case, and clinical samples from the case and close contacts and the environment samples were taken for the detection of nucleic acid of mpox virus.
Results Mpox virus Ⅰb was detected in the pharyngeal swab, rash smear and serum sample of the case. None of the 9 close contacts exhibited no discomfort or symptoms, and their pharyngeal swab test results were all negative. A total of 38 environmental samples were collected in places where the case had become involved, including 7 from the case's dormitory, 15 from the public dormitory kitchen and 16 from school gymnasium. In these samples, 8 were tested positive for the mpox virus, while the other 30 were negative.
