Abstract:
Objective The study was conducted to analyze the results of the surveillance of influenza like outbreaks in Shiyan city from 2004 to 2007. Methods Epidemiologic, etiologic and serological analysis was conducted in the present study. Results A total of 37 influenza like cases were found, involving the urban areas along with all six counties and cities, 36 of which occurred in primary and secondary schools. The number of affected persons was about 6 to 159, with an average attack rate of 2.89%. Conclusion From 2004 to 2007, influenza like cases mainly concentrated in primary and secondary schools and nurseries during the period from January to May, followed by September, in Shiyan city. The pathogen was influenza virus subtype H3N2 and type B of Victoria species. Respiratory syncytial virus was also detected.
