Epidemiological characteristics of Brucelliasis in general hospital in non-endemic area

Abstract: Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of Brucelliasis in general hospital in non-endemic area. Methods The epidemiological analysis was conducted on the clinical data of Brucelliasis patients in our hospital from 2005 to 2010. Results A total 44 Brucelliasis patients were treated during this period, of which 30 were outpatients and 14 were inpatients. Thirty three patients were males. The patients mainly came from Hebei, Beijing and Inner Mongolia. Thirty two patients were farmers or herders, accounting for 72.7% of the total. The disease occurred all the year round. Forty patients had long contact history with7 livestock (cattle or sheep). The main clinical manifestations included fever, acratia, sweating, arthralgia, hepatauxe and splenauxe combined with chronic diarrhea and lumbar spine damage. Conclusion More and more Brucelliasis patients were treated in recent years. They were often misdiagnosed duo to the varied occupations, contact histories and clinical manifestations. It is necessary to improve our understanding of Brucelliasis.
