Abstract: Objective To understand the trend and epidemiological characteristics of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in 2010 in Beijing and provide a scientific evidence to develop STDs prevention and control strategies. Methods The descriptive epidemiological analysis was conducted on the incidence data of STDs in Beijing in 2010 collected from national disease reporting information system. Results A total of 10 280 cases of 5 STDs (excluding AIDS) were reported in 2010, a decline of 2.84% compared with that in 2009. The reported incidence of STDs was 58.58/lakh. The cases of syphilis increased by 8.01%, but the cases of gonorrhea, Chlamydia trachomatis infection, genital herpes and pointed condyloma declined by 19.92%, 19.57%, 8.73% and 2.49%, respectively. Conclusion Compared with 2009, the reported cases of STDs declined in Beijing in 2010. Although syphilis cases continued to increase, the cases of gonorrhea, Chlamydia trachomatis infection, genital herpes and pointed condyloma declined by different degrees, which indicated that the STDs epidemic pattern was in change. It is necessary to conduct effective interventions continually to control syphilis and other STDs.
