Impact of influenza on pregnant women and fetus and the treatment

  • Influenza has become a major global public health problem, which can cause a worldwide pandemic. Pregnant women are the high-risk group for influenza-related illness and death. During influenza epidemic, the morbidity and mortality among them were higher than those of general population. Infection with influenza during pregnancy could lead to spontaneous abortion, premature birth, fetal defects and result in neonatal death. Furthermore, the fetus might be affected through placenta. Therefore, appropriate treatment should be given.
