Analysis on resident death in Yuzhong county, Gansu province, 2007

ObjectiveTo analyze the features of resident death in Yuzhong county. MethodsAccording to the national residentdeath cause survey plan in sentinel county, death survey in household was conducted in all villages in Yuzhong county, and the results were analyzed by Death Reg 2002 and SPSS 13.0. ResultsThe overall death rate was 0.57%, which was higher in males than in females (I/Isup2/sup=18.87, IP/I=0.00).The first five leading causes of death were cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, other diseases, injury and poisoning. Communicable disease ranked tenth of the death causes. The life expectance of the residents was 75.28 years old (76.17 years old for females, 74.40 years old for males) ConclusionThe major diseases which caused death among the residents are chronic/noncommunicable diseases. The risk of unintentional injury, poisoning and communicable disease should not be neglected.
