Study on HBV Infection and Infection Modes in Drug Users in Guangzhou

  • The aim of this study was to describe the situation of hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection in drug users in Guangzhou. 1663 drug users who received treatment in a detoxification institute in Guangzhou during 1995 to 1998 were describe for HBV markers by ELIASA. The result showed that HBsAg carrying rate was 19.9% and higher in intravenous drug users (22.8%) than that in oral drug users (12.3%) also was higher in male drug users (21.2%) than in female drug users (14.4%), both had statistical significance. There were 21 infection modes in the 1432 HBV positive drug users, of which HBsAb·HBcAb,HBcAb,HBsAg·HBeAb·HBsAg·HBeAg·HBcAb and HBsAg were common.Their consititution rate were 28.56%,20.39%,16.41%,8.59%,6.49%,and 6.20% respectively.Combination strategies of health education and vaccination were recommended in order to control HBV transmission in drug users.
