The Relationship between the Reincreasing Rate of Rabies and the Quality of Vaccine in Some Provinces in China 1997

  • The morbidity of rabies was increased again in some provinces of China 1997. The re-increasing rate was 39.6%(222/159) but it was very apparent in Jiangxi (285.7%, 27/7), Jiangsu (109.1%,23/11) and Guangxi (108.3%, 50/24). The cause may be related to the quality of vaccine. For instance, the antibody titer of post-vaccination was decreased yearly. The positive converse rate was decreased from 91.3%(543/595) in 1994 to 68% (295/432) in 1998. Even using the vaccine made by the same factory, the positive converse rates after 2nd and 3rd vaccination in 1996 were decreased by 18% and 46% in comparison with 1994(p<0.05).Furthermore two cases without any effect were reported.National control center showed a similar tendency. The expected morbidity of rabies in 1998 in China was forecased.
