Analysis on Surveillance Result of The First Round BSS among Intravenous Drug Users in Yunnan Province

In order to understand the knowledge level of AIDS and the risk behaviors among intravenous drug users (IDUs), and to explore the feasibility and standard practicable procedures of BSS in China. PPS methods and face- to - face interview had been used. The result showed that the AIDS knowledge level was low. 9% of IDUs shared needles during the last drug using. 57% IDUs never shared needle during the last month. During the last year, 36% IDUs had unregular sexual partners.8% male IDUs visited underground CSWs and 21% female IDUs conducted commercial sex activities.This indicated that the level of risk behaviors among IDUs was high,so it was the major factor of HIV epidemic in Yunnan Province.This study showed that it was feasible to conduct BSS in Yunnan and BSS should become an important component of surveillance system.
