Study on Epidemiology and Behavioural Science of STD and AIDS in a Minority Nationality Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province

  • Objective To learn the epidemic status of AIDS and the basic knowledge about AIDS among people in minority nationality autonomous prefecture in Gansu province. Methods Using stratified cluster sampling, selecting 850 persons from 4 Counties as study objects; using the method of anonymous investigation to learn the basic knowledge, attitude and the behaviors relating to AIDS; collecting 5 ml blood to detect HIV, syphilis, HBsAg and HCV antibody. Using EPI-info 6.0 statistic software to analyze the data. Results Han learns more knowledge about AIDS and safe sex behaviors than Tibet people. There wasn't HIV antibody positive case and 30 cases of syphilis positive. The infection rate of syphilis was 3.53%,and the infection rate of syphilis among Tibet people was 7.16%,which increased 15.67% comparing with the rate 6.19% in Xiahe county in 1980-1985.The positive rate of HBsAg was 7.06%,and the positive rate of HCV was 1.41%, The Tibet people knew little about AIDS,and their infection rate of syphilis was high. There were risk factors related to AIDS. So we should strengthen the health education about STD and AIDS among minority people in Gansu province.
