Analysis on Sentinel Surveillence Results of HIV among Drug Abusers in Dazhou City of Sichuan Province in 2003

  • Objective The present study was to get an insight into the HIV infection trend among drug abusers in the city of Dazhou and the effects of comprehensive prevention and control measures. Methods The research was implemented following “National Protocols for Monitoring of Sentinel Sites” Results Infection rates of HIV and syphilis were 65.09% and 9.20%,respectively in 424 blood samples. In female,the infection rate of syphilis was higher than in male (P<0.01). For intravenous injection and non-intravenous infection drug abusers,HIV infection rates were 78.85% and 16.13%,respectively,with a significant differ-ence between them (P<0.01).There were 57.72% of male and 67.27% of female drug abusers who admit-ted that they had had sexual intercourses for money or drugs,with 0.94% and 13.5% of them using condom in every intercourse. Only 40.85% of drug abusers occasionally used condom and did so in the recent time of intercourse. Conclusion HIV infection was still prevailing in drug abusers in the City.There existed sexual promiscuity among them and they seldom used condom in coitus. Comprehensive measures prevention and control AIDS needed to be further strengthened.
