Abstract

Objective To study the possibility of using phage typing to distinguish isolates of E. coli O157. Method 30 E. coli O157 strains with known flic types were studied for susceptibility for a group of 6 typing phages. Result 14 phage types among 30 E. coli strains were identified, which showed good correlations with the region the strains isolated. Strains with same flic types could have various phage types, and the strains with various flic types could belong to same phage type. Conclusion The phage typing scheme used in this study could be used as complement method for epidemiological investigation of infections caused by E.coli O157.
