Medical Observation Model and Appraisal of Isolating Effect for SARS Patient Close Contactors

  • Objective To explore the isolating methods and the effect evalution for SARS patient close contacors. Methods Epidemiological investigation and anlysis for SARS patients and its close contactors were conducted. Results From March 7, 2003 to June 25, 2003, 576 SARS patients/suspected SARS patients had been reported in Taiyuan with 6.187 SARS patients contactors which had included 2,921 close contactors and 3,266 general contactors, and the morbidity was 9.30%. The family isolators occupied 51.59% in the tolal isolators, and occupied 77.23% in the colse contactors. Among the 1,122 close contactors of 336 con-firmed SARS patients, 91 became the family secondary infectors, with the infection rate 8.11%. Under the controlling of segregation, the incidence of SARS patient close contactors had dropped dramatically. Conclusion Isolation was a very effective method for control the popularity of SARS. The family isolation played an impotant role. The hospital and centralized isolation had contributed on control the contagion source and pa-tient out to society. During the period of confirming and excluding the suspected patients, a lot of human and material resource had been cost, and the nomal life of people had been affected very munch.
