Monitoring and Analysis of HIV Infection and Its Related Risk Behaviors Among Drug Addicts

Objective To investigate the HIV infection and its related high-risk behaviors of drug addicts in Shantou city. Methods A face-to-face questionnaire investigation was carried out among 1160 addicts and venous blood was drawn for the detection of HIV antibody. Results The positive ratio of HIV antibody among drug addicts was 0.69%, and the ratio of drug abuse via venous injection was 40.0%, in which those who shared syringe accounted for 11.80%. People who had non-marital sexual behavior occupied 20.70%.Conclusion The infection ratio of HIV among drug addicts in the city of Shantou was relatively low,and the nost infected addicts were floationg personnel.It was shown that drug addicts didn't have a high cognitive level of high-risk behaviors of HIV infection and the existing of such high-risk behaviors could evoke HIV epidemic. Therefore,we should make good use of every opportunity to strengthen the educational propaganda and behavior intervention for preventing AIDS a-mong drug addicts and floating population.
